Back on Track
Brands Hatch is a circuit that’s difficult to hate, particularly the much longer Grand Prix Loop which heads into the forests blasting around some iconic corners
Nothing quite beats the sound of a flurry of the latest GT3 and GT4 cars blasting out of pit lane for the first time in 2016. As the thunderous Bentley, screaming Lamborghini, bellowing BMWs and glorious Aston Martins all tear out of the pits to shake away the cob webs from the winter season it’s fairly safe to say that British GT is back for it’s 2016 season.
The 2016 season is starting with a very different scene to that of 2015, a different circuit primarily! Swapping the tried and tested opening round of Oulton Park with the usual summer round of Brands Hatch – a move that didn’t necessarily please all the photographers!
That said, Brands Hatch is a circuit that’s difficult to hate, particularly the much longer Grand Prix Loop which heads into the forests blasting around some iconic corners. It’s definitely one of the prettiest circuits in the United Kingdom. There’s plenty of angles to explore and for a spectator it’s fantastic with access around the entire GP loop. However, it wasn’t quite the green and vibrant venue that it usually is in the summer.
The grid of British GT has taken a bit of a shake up too. Whilst the GT3 grid has somewhat reduced in size the quality is as high as ever – with some top names joining the championship mounting a challenge on Andrew Howard & Jonny Adams title defence. Aston Martin, BMW, Lamborghini, Bentley, Ginetta and Audi are all represented in the top class. Meanwhile in GT4 a growing field has been boosted by the addition of the brand new McLaren 570 GT4 along with probably one of the finest GT4 grids in Europe.
Can’t wait to get back out there for the next round at Rockingham this weekend. It’s sure to be a thriller!
