A uniquely challenging circuit makes for some great photo opportunities
The second event on the calendar for the Avon Tyres British GT Championship took place last week at the fastest circuit in Europe, the Rockingham Motor Speedway. Whilst the championship doesn’t use it’s record breaking configuration where Tony Kanaan lapped the 1.47 mile oval in just under 25 seconds averaging an astonishing 214mph, the GT series does run briefly on the high banking of speedway turn 1. This provides a unique challenge for the drivers as the first turn of the race is taken essentially flat out making turn 2 of the circuit a tight squeeze as the whole field concertinas up.
The championship once again saw a strong grid heading to the circuit featuring Aston, Audi, McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes, Ferrari, BMW, Ginetta and more. Below is a small selection of my favourite photographs from the weekend, the full gallery can be found on l’endurance.co.uk.
The next round of the British GT Championship is at Silverstone on the 25th and 26th of May and also features the Formula 3 Championship. My next event is at Cadwell Park for the MSVR Championships this weekend. I’m very much looking forward to this event as it usually provides incredibly close racing and has a new series for 2013 – the Ariel Atom Cup. It will be interesting to see if these track-bred machines can manage to get some air over the Mountain section of the course! Keep your eyes peeled on my Facebook page and Twitter for pictures across the whole weekend.
