Endurance Special at Silverstone

Going from the beautiful rolling landscape of Portugal to a flat, bare, empty, ex-airbase in Northamptonshire is always going to be a transition that is slightly unwelcome. Last week I had the wind turbines and the dust to keep my mind off the return to Silverstone for a third time this year.

Unfortunately, it’s something we just have to work with. The Avon Tyres British GT Championship was making it’s annual trip to the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit where drivers and teams would tackle a 3 hour endurance race.

For those that visit Silverstone more frequently it formed the second weekend in a row that GT racing took to the famous airfield based race track. In the previous week (whilst I was in Portugal for the FIA WRC) the Blancpain Endurance Series paid it’s visit with an impression 60+ car grid in attendance, then next week International GT Open would return with the week after holding a GT Cup race! An impressive string of four GT events would leave any sportscar fan salivating at the idea of four individual events usually with totally unique teams and drivers to each series. An impressive feat for sure.

I’ll be back next weekend for International GT Open.
